Fans of the Goodie MOB will be excited to know that the group is planning a reunion concert in September in the A.

ATLANTA, GA – Shameless Plug Promotions today announced a one-night only Goodie Mob reunion performance at the Masquerade in Atlanta on Saturday September 19, 2009. Doors open at 7:00 pm. Tickets for ‘Remember Atlanta’ go on sale Saturday, August 1st through Ticketmaster.

The highly anticipated show is expected to be the highlight of the hip hop community’s concert events this year and will feature other members of the Dungeon family.

“This show means a lot to the people of Atlanta,” said Jabari Graham, one-fourth of the do-no-wrong new events group, Shameless Plug Promotions. “I grew up in Atlanta back when Dungeon and La Face were doing their thing. We knew this reunion show has been in the works for years, so to be a part of making this concert happen is just remarkable for us. For so long, Atlanta has been labeled as swag or crunk, so a lot of acts may feel they shouldn’t make a stop here. We know ATL is more than that and we’re out to prove it.”

The Goodie MO-B helped put the A on the map. Hope they perform all their classics.

Dr. Lowery will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom as announced by President Barack Obama. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the nation’s top honor for a civilian.

Other recipients include Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) and Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa. The awards will be presented Aug. 12.

What does it mean to be an American? So often we think of the phrases like, “land of liberty,” or “home of the brave.” If you ask people around you, you may be surprised by their responses.

My brother Salim Channel took his video camera out on the streets of Northern California to find out what people think about what it means. The answers are as diverse as this nation’s population.

The arrest of Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. shows that the police will lock a man up for anything, even if he’s on the front porch of his house.

Professor Gates was arrested at his home on July 16 after the alarm went off. It looks like some folks in the neighborhood and the police suspected Gates of being a robber.

According to his lawyer, Professor Gates showed his ID, asked the officer for his name and badge, and asked a few questions, then the cop arrested him for disorderly content.

As Professor Gates stepped onto his front porch, the officer who had been inside and who had examined his identification, said to him, “Thank you for accommodating my earlier request,” and then placed Professor Gates under arrest. He was handcuffed on his own front porch.

The charges have since been dropped. If you give the boys half a reason, they’ll find an excuse to put you in your place.

Atlanta’s CBS affiliate WGCL invited about 25 Atlanta bloggers to learn more about a new initiative called Blog Stew.

It’s an attempt to integrate community/blogger content on the station’s website, and on-air. It’s also a citizen journalism initiative. The station has purchased about two dozen HD Flip cameras and will loan them to community members interested in sharing content.

As part of the deal, the video must not be posted anywhere else, and there’s no compensation. The good ole days are gone. I wish HDNews was still around.
