DL HUGHLEY BREAKS THE NEWS: ROUND TWO

by A.man.I

After watching round 2 of D.L. Hughley’s new show on CNN, I’m really left contemplating what the future of journalism holds. After being less than impressed after watching a short clip of the show during the premier, I anxiously awaited the second episode.

Here are some of my thoughts: I think the community would be better served by a timely, thoughtful discussion of the issues. Sure, I laughed at some of Hughley’s jokes, but in general it doesn’t appear that this show is well thought out. His monologue wasn’t as outrageous, but I don’t watch CNN for laughs, that’s what SNL and ComedyCentral is for.

CNN already has top talent like, Roland Martin, TJ Holmes, Don Lemon, or Tony Harris, who would do a great job hosting any show. Isn’t credibility a big part of being a go to news source? I don’t think “trusted news” when I see Hughley.

This isn’t to say that some of the interviews weren’t informative. I actually liked the Sharpton segment, and Hughley seemed natural and spontaneous, at times. Maybe CNN is just trying too hard to make the news cool.

Does it sound strange that I sometimes found myself asking, “Is this BET or CNN”?

I am shocked by this show as well, quite terrible and out of place for CNN to air this…

I was actually surprised that they decided to continue with it even after the dismal effort the 1st week…
