SOCON ‘08

by A.man.I

This is day 1.5 of Socon ‘08. The morning session kicked off with a discussion of the strides made in social media last year, and what some of the trends in ‘08 will be. Chris Heuer with The Conversation Group is the keynote speaker, and Josh Hallett with Voce Communications is following up with a discussion summary. This afternoon, the break out sessions will cover different social media related topics.

I’m leading an afternoon discussion on “How to be a YouTube Star.” That’s very timely because next week, YouTube is flying me out to New York to speak at an “Up Front.”

Here’s my advice if you’d like to start a vlog or podcast:
1. Have a clear idea of the message you’re trying to get across in your video.
2. Try to use sound production techniques. In other words, use a tripod, and microphone.
3. I always edit my videos, but editing is a skill that takes practice and patience.
4. Try to keep your video short and sweet.
5. Use keywords and tags that can help people find your video.
6. Finally, if you’d like people to check out your work, send a blast out to some of your friends or associates, and ask for feedback.

This conference is all about making connections, and I’ve already met some interesting folks. You know I brought the cam, and will post the video ASAP.

You know how I do it.
