About 700 people marched for justice on Saturday for Megan Williams according to reports. Williams was attacked and tortured and sexually assaulted in October by six people in West Virginia.

Rally organizers promised national black leaders like Al Sharpton. He didn’t show up.

It’s good to see people continuing the spirit of activism, but the crowds came nowhere close to Jena Six. No Sharpton, Jackson, or tens of thousands of marchers, and no media swarm.

Is it that the community, and the media doesn’t care about brutal crimes committed against women? What do you think?

Crowds continue to gather outside of the homes of Viacom executives every Saturday according to the New York Times. The protests started in mid Sept. against BET’s chief executive Debra Lee, and in Oct. folks started gathering outside of Viacom’s president Phillipe Dauman’s home.

People have been protesting against the negative images of Blacks and Latinos portrayed on MTV and BET. To learn more about the campaign, visit EnoughIsEnough.

Ludacris is getting media attention for the Runaway Love campaign. November is National Runaway Prevention Month and the Chicago Sun Times recently spoke to the rapper about his relationship with the National Runaway Switchboard. Ludacris wrote a song “Runaway Love,” to raise awareness about the problem.

“I wrote it to tell kids that they don’t have to run away, there are other solutions. But this was much more than a song. It became a movement.”

With rappers so often making headlines for the negative, it’s good to see Luda working to make a difference.

Speaking of Hip-Hop artists working to make a difference, the Hip-Hop Summit’s Financial Empowerment Tour is making the rounds.

Saturday, business mogul Russell Simmons, producer Jermaine Dupri, and rappers like Young Joc were among those who spoke to young people in Atlanta about making wise financial decisions.
