The thing that can be so frustrating is knowing about positive compelling stories, yet having to cover the bad news because of the ratings race. No station wants to miss a story that another is covering especially when it involves a victim.

Perhaps it opens the doors for bloggers and independent media.

Hey there A.man.I,

Talking about a story that gets Attention and is Good
News, well Rich Schefren just unloaded on November 28,
2007 with "Attention Age" Doctrine Part-Two. Everyone
using the Internet with it's over 15 Billion web page
would be wise to have more than a glancing view of that subject because the Attention Age is Real.

Here is something to consider because it's more than
what just appears on the surface. Here is a Good News
Story that has global reach and it's so positive until
the wind can draw and cause great blessing for the one
listening and hearing the message. "A Good Soldier"
Be Blessed always...Peace!

JEREMIAH 30:17 It is written in our Bible {NASB} Our LORD said
'For I will restore you to health
And I will heal you of your wounds,' declares the LORD,
Because they have called you an outcast, saying:
"It is Zion; no one cares for her" Gospel of St. John 6:43-58

I probably should be ranting over on my own blog, but I keep peeking in here and finding interesting topics of conversation (that I wish I'd started).

In addition to the points that you've made, I'd also like to add that I believe news covers those unexpected events that are outside of the ordinary occurrences of our everyday lives. Most often these are the crimes, accidents and random events that fill the limited time available in a newscast.

Where are we when good people are doing good things? We're covering the murder that happened down the street or trying to point out problems to the people who are responsible for providing solutions.

Good news or bad news, there is no lack of compelling stories to be told. We have finite resources and can only make subjective judgments on what people will watch.
