EXECUTING SOCIAL MEDIA?

by A.man.I

If you heard someone say “execute social media,” what would you think? I close my eyes and see crowds of people gathered around to watch the horrific death of social media by guillotene.

A two-day conference in Atlanta called “Executing Social Media” is actually anything but that. The idea is to help corporate folk understand how social media can connect and engage customers.

On day 2, SpaceyG (that’s Grayson Daughters if ya don’t know) and I spoke on a panel called, “Pumping up the Volume: Mixing Podcasting with Corporate Communications.”

It was an interactive presentation. First Grayson showed the audience the video she produced on day one of the conference, and she gave examples of successful online marketing videos.

I gave a Power Point presentation on new media basics, then played the podcast I produced at the NABJ Conference last summer. I also showed an example of how a corporate video can spread across the Internet withought much promotion.

By that time Grayson’s video was finished uploading to YouTube.

Someone in the audience wanted to know how to embed a video onto a blog, so you know what I did next…

I showed ‘em that sharing online video is as easy a cutting and pasting.

Sidebar: Day 1 was hosted at the Coca-Cola’s headquarters. Did you notice how a couple of shots of the softdrink were included in the video? That’s free social marketing for Coke.

With all the people who are making jokes about that conference’s name (me included!) I’ve got to wonder who gave it the green light!
